Empires & Allies is a free to play game on Facebook that combines resource gathering and base customization of other social games with turn-based combat. It was one of the first social games to feature combat on Facebook. It has been rated as one of the best games on Facebook on multiple websites, and still maintains over five MILLION daily players!

Empires & Allies was developed by the Zynga office in Los Angeles, CA which is largely comprised of former Command & Conquer veterans from EA. Real-time and turn-based strategy games certainly influenced Empires & Allies.

Detailed Info


I was brought on to Empires & Allies as a client game programmer. My primary role was to take all of the art, text, design requirements, and business requirements and put them all together into features for players to enjoy. This involved writing code in ActionScript 3 for the Flash game client and PHP for the game server.

Very often, I had to help with the game design of features, since game development is a collaborative process and the developers understand the game in great detail.

  • Various quest chains such as Black Ops, Black Ops 2, and Titan Invasion 2
